Young people in Kenya have taken to the streets for more mass protests under the hashtag #NaneNaneMarch. Kenyans say the Nane Nane protests will be significant and the final attempt to remove the Kenya Kwanza (loosely translated to “Kenya First”) government is a political alliance currently headed by President, William Ruto-  which they accuse of failing to address their demands including the government’s refusal to fight corruption, poor leadership, and a lack of attention to the voices of Kenyans.

The wave of weekly protests which began in June followed the government’s attempts to pass a controversial tax law which has since been abolished. The government suffered more defeat recently after the 2023 tax laws which it reverted to after failing to pass a new tax law was also declared unconstitutional by the courts.

On Thursday last week, I was a guest on SABC’s Channel Africa and I spoke with Lulu Gaboo about the developments in Kenya.
