Kenya’s opposition leader, Raila Odinga, has called off weekly nationwide protests that began on 20th March 2023 to pressure the government to address the rising cost of living.

Additionally, Mr Odinga who rejected the results of the 2022 presidential elections, wanted access to the servers used in the election to enable an independent forensic audit. He further demanded that the ongoing reconstitution of the electoral commission be halted to allow for the involvement of the opposition.

On Sunday, President William Ruto, agreed to the demand on the reconstitution of the electoral body and asked that the process be spearheaded by a bipartisan committee of parliament.
